After Eric Willett’s win yesterday in the slopestyle event, Iouri Podladtchikov today carried again high the Quiksilver flag by winning the half pipe event of the 2011/2012 Dew Tour second stop in Killington, Vermont, USA.
American rider Louie Vito was leading the final when I-Pod dropped in the icy killington half pipe. The Swiss Russian born snowboarding star won the final throwing a Cab 720, frontside crippler into back 1260 into front 1080 to cab 1080 all perfectly landed with an impressive amplitude and his tailor made smooth style. Despite an engaged second run, Vito could not overtake Iouri, declared the winner by the judges with a 96,75 points score out of 100. (Lire la suite…)
The MMXII space shuttle is preparing for lift-off as the world’s top snowboarders get ready for orbit at the 13th annual Burton European Open presented by MINI from February 25th – March 3rd at LAAX/Switzerland. Some of the sport’s biggest names like Mark McMorris, Kazuhiro Kokubo, Jamie Anderson, Kelly Clark and Hannah Teter are confirmed to compete at this year’s Burton European Open.
Riders to Watch
Riders to watch include Finland’s Roope Tonteri, who is defending his 2011 BEO slopestyle, Belgium’s wonder kid Seppe Smits, who kicked off his season with a win at the Pleasure Jam and local Swiss hero Christian Haller, who is currently sitting in the #1 spot of the Overall TTR Ranking. Canadian Mark McMorris will travel all the way back to Switzerland, which seems to treat him well as hejust won in Davos. 2011 US Open Halfpipe Champion Kazuhiro Kokubo (JPN) will be in attendance and showcase his smooth style in the Halfpipe event. In its second year in 2012, the Freeride Juniors by Dakine Tour has already become an integral part of the Freeride World Tour asset landscape. Popularity and participation rates of the Junior Events clearly show that there is a demand for an entry point into our sport and its unique competition routine. At the same time, the Juniors weekends represent an ideal platform to transmit valuable knowledge about security aspects detrimental to a sport in a high mountain area. Riding responsibly and save is a key factor in our sport and is therefore extensively addressed during several mandatory workshops and seminars at every Freeride Juniors by Dakine event.
